Our solution.

Tusafishe installs inexpensive and environmentally friendly water treatment systems in rural areas of large communities. The seeds of the moringa trees are used for the cleaning process. As part of the program, Tusafishe is also initiating the planting of the moringa trees which ensures a circular economy. Women are also trained in how to use the filters appropriately and how to plant the trees.

So far, 58 municipal filters have been installed and 2,320 women have been trained. Almost 100,000 people now receive clean drinking water every day, and the number of illnesses in the population has been greatly reduced.

Problem.

In many places access to safe and clean drinking water is scarce and unreliable. Contaminated waters and poor sanitation are linked to the transmission of diseases such as typhoid, hepatit A, dysentery, cholera and diarrhoea. The effekts are not only suffering and death, but also economical and social.

The most common and traditional way of cleaning water is to sterialize it by heating. This requires coal or fire wood which in turn leads to the cutting of trees and deforestation. Deforestation causes the release of CO2 and destabilizes the earth leading to landslides and loss of nutrients.

Clean water.

We provide clean and safe drinking water with a low-cost filtering solution. This eliminates water borne diseases and saves lives.

Technology.

When purifying water with filters instead of heat with the burning of trees or coal, this means that unneccesary CO2 emissions can be avoided.

We plant trees.

We also plant trees to recreate habitats, working against deforestation. We plant Moringa trees as they have many beneficial properties and are fast growing.

Awareness.

The tradition of burning to stearliaze water is deaply rootet in the culture, thresfore it´s important to raise consciousness and awareness to change traditional ways with training and education of communities.
